A little known story of unimaginable humanity, generosity and kindness. Towards the end of World War 2, the Polish ambassadorial team in Mumbai, led by the determined heroine, Kira Banasinska and supported by local Indian communities, dispatched a relief convoy with food and other essentials to Iran where Polish refugees were suffering from disease and starvation. They were former prisoners released from Soviet labor camps who had managed to make their way out of the Soviet Union on foot. An expedition was planned with idea of bringing 5,500 women and children back to India in the returning supply trucks. This was not so simple. It took Kiras resilience and indefatigable energy as a Red Cross leader to create a refuge for them and to welcome them to dedicated settlements in three places, Vallivade, Panchgani and Jamnagar. Over 70 years later, a number of now elderly Polish people return to the town of Vallivade where they were able to find safety and discover the joys of childhood.
2019, 52 min, Poland English dir. TADEUSZ MIAROWSKI
The story of two people: Hiranmoy Ghoshal, a Hindu diplomat, translator, linguist, and writer from West Bengal and his daughter Mira Ghoshal, a musicologist and expert on Hindu music. The lives of these two people are torn between Poland and India, and in some periods, out of necessity, between England and the United States. The film focuses primarily on Hiranmoy Ghoshal, whose unusual life and considerable accomplishments bear a huge influence on his daughters fate.
